We are all storytellers. We continually create our personal histories and we can shape them to live with more meaning and purpose.
Around 2000 years ago our Greek ancestors began to extract forms from a marble stone to depict myths, wealth, status and timeless beauty. They created some of the world’s most renowned masterpieces in architecture and sculpture. As historical chronicles, those marble monuments, rich with memories of civilizations, reveal humanity’s deepest understanding, culture’s first stirrings and an awareness of human purpose and destiny. Thus marble has an important cultural significance that influenced the history of art and architecture across the entire world.
In this endless energy that flows through marble, Villy Margariti-Dalacoura, found a way of expressing her creativity without boundaries. The VMD Objects Collection is a tribute to her origins and to Greek culture. Her philosophy, rooted in rigor and harmony, was the starting point of designing bold, minimal and well-defined functional objects.
“Marble reveals to my mind, sculpture. It was important for me to approach each piece as a unique object. On each of them I carve archetypal symbols and defined geometrics to bring them into life as artifacts that narrate the essence of a meaningful and pure way of life.”
The contour of an olive leaf or a sphere shape will blend with structural solutions into a contemporary design object. The resulting appearance is translucent and soft as human skin, solid as the substance of its core and at the same time light as a feather. In combination with rich earthy hues of natural materials such as oxidized bronze, linen and silk, her creations are reinterpreted as modern lifestyle accessories that can complement all types of interiors.
Candleholders, table trays, doorknobs and bookstands; these objects reflect attention to detail and finishes executed by hand with the impeccable mastery of local skilled artisans.
They can stand alone as striking single geometric sculptures or they can inhabit a particular space as a group with other interior elements. They are aimed at a broad audience and are intended for every day or formal presence. Each piece is produced in small series; the color and the texture of the stone make each product unique.
